The incident occurred in June 2018, when Canada's WJC team gathered to celebrate their gold in the tournament earlier that year, which was secured after the final win against Sweden.

The woman met Michael McLeod at a bar and went with him to his room to have sex. Then, four other young men entered the room.

My consciousness shut down, she says, describing, among other things, how the men pulled down their pants and made her perform oral sex.

One of the men put on a condom and forced her to have intercourse.

It felt degrading, it was just a joke to them, she says.

The woman says she cried and tried several times to leave the room, but the men held her back.

Judge Maria Carroccia told the jury that they must not conclude that simply because the woman had voluntary sex with McLeod, she would be more likely to consent to the sexual activities that led to the charges against the hockey players, or that she would be less credible.

All five players – except McLeod, Dillon Dube, Carter Hart, Cal Foote, and Alex Formenton deny any wrongdoing.

When the suspicions became known, the players turned themselves in to the police. None of them have a contract with an NHL club today.
