At the beginning of April last year, a hand grenade detonated inside a home in Skärholmen in southern Stockholm. Among the people in the home were two small children.

A few weeks later, a hand grenade was thrown through a bedroom window in Tumba, causing a massive fire. A woman and one of her children were seriously injured; the woman was so badly injured that both her legs had to be amputated.

By all accounts, the attack, which is suspected of being linked to a drug deal, was accidentally targeted at a family with no criminal connections.

“Wrong residence”

"It's a terrible act. In short, you could say that there is a debt at the bottom, but then they took the wrong house when they threw the hand grenade in," says Daniel Insulander, who is one of the prosecutors in the case.

In connection with the indictments, the two bombings were combined in a trial, after it was discovered that the same person was suspected of being behind them. The man, who is in his 30s, was arrested at Arlanda in December after having been abroad.

He is suspected of having controlled the perpetrators via encrypted apps and is charged with instigating, among other things, five attempted murders and instigating serious public danger.

A total of six defendants

It's the same main individual, the same alias that appears as the instigator in both of these cases, says Daniel Insulander.

If you look at the entire setup, it's the same modus operandi, which is evident from the chats.

The trial begins in one of the secure rooms at Stockholm District Court on Wednesday. Five more people are on trial, suspected of being involved in various ways in the Tumba bombing.

For the Skärholmen attack, a man was previously sentenced to seven years in prison for serious public danger and serious unlawful threats.
