The incident occurred in April last year when a seriously ill woman was admitted to Norra Älvsborgs County Hospital (Näl) in Trollhättan.
A nurse discovered that the woman was bleeding from the rectum and called the doctor, who did not come. After a couple of hours, the woman's condition had deteriorated, and the nurse tried to contact the doctor again, but he did not show up either.
A couple of hours later, the woman was lifeless and was pronounced dead. The nurse called the doctor once more to confirm the death, but did not get a response.
The incident has been reported to the Health and Social Care Inspectorate, Ivo, under Lex Maria, and the locum doctor is no longer allowed to work within the NU healthcare system.
According to an investigation by Näl, the woman died from the rectal bleeding and would have survived if she had received timely care.
