Uppsala University Hospital has self-reported after a woman died during childbirth in September last year. She had preeclampsia, and staff did not follow procedures.

The incident analysis conducted by the hospital after the woman's death found that procedures were not followed. For example, follow-up checks were not carried out in a timely manner despite the woman's deteriorating condition.

It is extremely regrettable, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that this does not happen again, which is why we are filing a Lex Maria report with the Inspectorate for Health and Social Care, says Ulla Olsson-Strömberg, chief physician at the Academic Hospital, to SVT Uppsala.

In Sweden, between three and seven percent of all pregnant women develop preeclampsia. Out of 100,000 women, on average, one woman dies.
