Gunfire was reported from several areas in junta-ruled Mali on Saturday, including Kati, a few miles outside Bamako, where the military junta's leader Assimi Goïta lives, witnesses and a security source told AFP.
An AP reporter and others on the scene reported sustained gunfire near Bamako's international airport, about 15 miles from the city center. The airport is located near an air base used by the air force.
Fighting was also heard in Gao and Sévaré, further east in the country.
No armed group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Mali's military says it is fighting "terrorist groups" in several locations.
Mali has been ruled by the military junta since two coups in 2020 and 2021.
