Peter Wettergren is leaving Swedish football club Malmö FF. According to the club, the parties have mutually agreed to part ways. "It was a short and intense six months," Wettergren, 57, said in a statement.

Wettergren was brought in at the end of June last year to support coach Henrik Rydström after a tough start to the season.

In September, Rydström was fired - and now it is clear that his assistant coach is leaving the club.

"With a long and solid coaching background, both at club and national team level, he has contributed a great deal of experience to the daily work around the team," Malmö FF writes on its website.

"I came to Malmö FF because I wanted to get out on the football field again - that's where I belong. It was a short and intense six months with important and fun work, and I want to thank Malmö FF for an educational six months," Wettergren said in a statement.

From 2016 to 2023, Peter Wettergren was assistant to Janne Andersson in the men's national team. From the end of 2023 until June last year, he worked as technical director at the Swedish Football Association.

The new assistant coach in Malmö will be Endika Gabiña, who has held the same role under head coach Miguel Ángel Ramírez at Real Zaragoza and Sporting de Gijón.
