The average temperature was 20.74 degrees Celsius, which is 3.05 degrees above the average for June during the period 1991 to 2020. The previous record was from June last year. It was mainly Spain and France, as well as parts of the United Kingdom, that were affected by the heat.

The measurements also show that June was the second warmest June globally, only surpassed by June 2024. The average was 16.54 degrees Celsius, which is 0.56 degrees above the average for the same period, 1991-2020.

Also worrying is that the sea temperature for the oceans outside Earth's polar regions in June 2026 was the highest ever measured - 20.86 degrees.
