The woman began her struggle to get help from healthcare five years ago, writes Vetlanda-Posten. She felt bloated in her stomach, her back had started to ache, and eventually, her bladder was also affected.

The woman tells the newspaper that she visited three healthcare centers. There, she was advised to diet, first with the help of a dietitian, then dieting in a group.

I sat nicely and listened to how you should eat popcorn instead of chips, the woman says.

Becomes Desperate

At the third healthcare center, she was prescribed eating disorder therapy.

But her waistline continued to increase, even though she held back on food and took long walks.

Another doctor assesses that the problems are about incontinence.

I become more and more desperate and feel very bad in body and soul. I feel both torn and given up on not getting help from healthcare when I feel so bad, says.

In the spring of 2024, she contacted a private clinic on her own initiative to undergo stomach surgery to lose weight. But when the operation begins, the doctor discovers something that makes it have to be interrupted.

Reported to Ivo

At Höglandssjukhuset, the woman receives the message that she has a large tumor in her stomach. When it is operated on, it turns out to be 40 centimeters and weigh 8.5 kilos.

The woman reported the third healthcare center to the Patient Injury Board last autumn. Region Jönköpings län has also reported the case for review according to lex Maria to the Inspectorate for Healthcare and Welfare (Ivo).

Ivo tells Vetlanda-Posten that they are reviewing the case and that no decision has been made.
