The police are warning of lightning strikes north of Uppsala. Reports of slips and accidents are also coming from other parts of the country such as Sörmland and Västmanland. And in Norway, the E6 has been closed – just a few miles from the Swedish border.

Road conditions can be treacherous in places a few days before Christmas. The police have warned of slippery conditions on the E4 north of Uppsala and on many of the larger and medium-sized roads from central Sweden and northwards, there is a risk of difficult road conditions, according to the Swedish Transport Administration.

Despite temperatures above zero, colder nights can mean that the temperature on the roads is around zero.

– It can be a bit tricky when it's above zero in the air but colder on the roads, says Felicia Danielsson, press communicator at the Swedish Transport Administration.

SVT reports about slippery roads after two skids occurred on the E20 in the Strängnäs area, and there have also been slippery roads and accidents around Kungsör. The E6 in southern Norway, north of Strömstad, was closed on Sunday due to slippery roads.

During the morning, the Swedish Transport Administration ensured that the roads were salted as a preventive measure.

The Swedish Transport Administration also has, as before previous major holidays, more people on road traffic control. However, anti-slip measures and road maintenance are carried out under the same conditions as on all winter days. Since there are many peak days this year, the Swedish Transport Administration expects slightly lighter traffic.

– The Christmas holiday means more widespread travel this time, says Felicia Danielsson.
