The aim of the "challenge", which is being spread on TikTok, is to try to cause power outages. According to the authority, there have been incidents in several municipalities, including Ludvika and Värnamo - both of which have warned about the behavior.
"Tampering with electrical outlets can be life-threatening. The outlets can become live and cause electric shock, and if the ground fault circuit interrupter does not trip, there is also a risk of fire," says Per Samuelsson at the Swedish Electrical Safety Authority on the authority's website.
It is unclear whether anyone has been injured as a result of the trend. However, according to the police in Värnamo, metal objects have been found in sockets at several schools, once resulting in a power outage, reports SVT Nyheter Jönköping.
We went out on social media within the police and wondered if this was a new trend, and then it turned out that it was some new TikTok trend that had started, says police officer Jonas Bergman to SVT.
Parents are encouraged to talk to their children about the risks of these types of trends.
