Iran is the world's second-largest producer of pistachios. Export restrictions, as well as a poor harvest last year, have already contributed to a price increase that has now been further strengthened. This is a consequence of the war. Now the shipping of nuts from the region has become even more complicated, which has effectively reduced the supply.
In March, the price was $4.57 per pound (equivalent to 0.45 kilograms), the highest level since May 2018. Another factor contributing to the price increase is significantly higher demand in recent years for the so-called "Dubai chocolate," which contains pistachios.
