The safety zone will apply from 3 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, and for two weeks to come, until April 7, police spokesperson Ola Österling tells TT.
During this period, the police will have a higher-than-usual presence and will carry out more preventive checks in parts of Diplomatstaden. This means, among other things, that anyone staying in the Östermalm area may be searched by police, even if there is no suspicion of a crime.
According to the police, the background to the decision is an increased threat.
The ongoing armed conflict in the Middle East has also had repercussions in other areas where Israeli, Jewish and American interests exist, the police write on their website.
"Considering previous incidents and the threat posed to these interests, there is a significant risk of serious crime, including shootings and explosions in the area," the police continue.
