BNP Paribas falls 4.4 percent and Société Générale is down 4.0 percent, helping to pull the Paris CAC 40 index down 1.1 percent.
The banks' share price decline comes ahead of the presidential election candidates presenting the main features of their economic policy on Thursday evening in April 2027 - an election that will determine who succeeds Emmanuel Macron.
Investors are concerned that higher funding costs for French banks and weaker French growth will hurt the banks.
