An 18-year-old singer in Russian St. Petersburg has been arrested for having led a sing-along with criticism of President Vladimir Putin.

The performance, where hundreds of young people sang along to the banned protest song on the lively main street Nevskij prospekt, went viral, reports The Kyiv Post.

Street musician Diana Loginova performs under the artist name Naoko and sings with the band Stoptime. The current protest song "Cooperative Swan Lake" was released in 2022 by rapper Noize MC. It condemns Putin's regime, the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the large-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

The song was condemned as "extremist" in the spring by the prosecutor's office in St. Petersburg, which claims that it contains "propaganda for a violent coup attempt".

Loginova may be prosecuted for speaking ill of the Russian military and for organizing an unauthorized public gathering, according to local media. The other band members are reported to have been questioned by the police but later released.
