Viktor Claesson may have done his part in the national football team. This summer he rejected Jon Dahl Tomasson. I said that I wanted to focus on club football, says the FC Copenhagen player.

Midfielder Viktor Claesson, 33, was a starter in Janne Andersson's national team. After Jon Dahl Tomasson took over as national team manager 1.5 years ago, Claesson was not relevant for play until this summer when Tomasson wanted him.

I said that I wanted to focus on club football. I'm not young anymore and need to rest when there is a national team break. Both for the body and to get time with the family that I value highly in the phase of the career I'm in, says Claesson to Danish Bold.

I think the national team is a closed chapter for me.

Tomasson was fired on Tuesday after a failed World Championship qualification and the Swedish Football Association is now looking for a new national team manager.
