A large rainstorm has caused flooding in central Vietnam. Homes, streets and agricultural land are under water in the world heritage cities of Huê and Hoi An.

In the city of Huê, it has rained 1,085 millimeters in one day, which is the largest amount of rainfall measured in Vietnam according to the country's meteorological institute.

The water level in the Perfume River had risen to 4.62 meters on Tuesday morning and in several places in the world heritage-listed cities of Huê and Hoi An, the water reaches waist height.

Tourists have been evacuated by boat from Hoi An after the water in the Hoai River rose. State media reports that around 40,000 tourists have been moved to other hotels.

Vietnam is one of the most flood-affected countries in the world. Almost half of the population lives in risk areas.
