Now, six Italian film organisations have published an open letter in La Repubblica, in which they sharply criticise the festival's management. Among other things, they write that the number of female directors has dropped from 29 to 5 percent compared with 2025. They also write that the festival's selection is "one-dimensional and male-dominated."
The only female director competing for the Golden Lion this year is Danish May el-Toukhy with “Kvinde uknedt.”
