The government of interim President Delcy Rodriguez "has decided to initiate a diplomatic process with the United States government, with the aim of re-establishing diplomatic missions in both countries," Foreign Minister Yvan Gil said in a statement.
Rodriguez condemned the US's "criminal, illegal and illegitimate attack" in a statement, but promised that the country would "continue to confront this aggression through diplomatic channels."
The discussions began on Friday, a sign of cooperation after the US captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro a week ago.
Venezuela also said it will send a delegation to Washington.
