Delegations from both Israel and Hamas are present in the mediating country Qatar, but they do not communicate directly with each other, but through mediators.

Palestinian sources told Reuters that the first day did not result in anything and that the Israeli delegation did not have a mandate to reach an agreement with Hamas, since it does not have "any real powers".

In parallel with the talks continuing on Monday, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrives in Washington to meet US President Donald Trump. It is his third visit to the White House since Trump was installed in the presidency for his second term, a half year ago. The President himself says that there is a "good chance" that the parties will agree.

Hamas announced on Friday that it had given a "positive" response to the mediators regarding the latest proposal for a ceasefire, but added that they wanted to negotiate the details.

The details of the proposal for a ceasefire, apart from the fact that it involves a 60-day ceasefire, are still unclear. According to reports, it includes, among other things, that Hamas releases a number of Israeli hostages in Gaza in exchange for Israel releasing a number of Palestinian prisoners.
