The preservative Thimerosal is used on a small scale to prevent bacterial and fungal growth in vaccines. A thorough investigation has not found any adverse effects of the additive. The World Health Organization WHO has also found that there is no evidence that Thimerosal is harmful.
Health authorities in the USA, appointed by the Minister of Health and vaccine skeptic Robert F Kennedy, questioned the use of the agent after conspiracy theories that vaccines would cause autism.
The agent is now being stopped because there are alternatives, according to the Minister of Health.
