"We might have discussions with (Venezuelan President Nicolás) Maduro and we'll see how it goes. They would like to talk," Trump told reporters.
On Sunday, the US aircraft carrier USS Gerald R Ford and its accompanying armada arrived in the Caribbean Sea, near Venezuela. Several US warships are already in the waters.
The United States has in recent months launched repeated military strikes against boats it accuses of smuggling drugs. At least 80 people have been killed, according to AFP news agency estimates.
Caracas and leader Nicolás Maduro accuse the US of mobilizing for combat, and that the US is using the attacks as a pretext for escalating the threat against Venezuela.
Trump's statement comes shortly after Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on X that the United States wants to label a cartel allegedly led by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro as a terrorist organization, writes US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
According to Rubio, the cartel should be classified as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO).
The designated cartel has "corrupted the government of Venezuela and is responsible for terrorist violence carried out by and in conjunction with other FTOs, as well as for smuggling drugs to the United States and Europe," Rubio claims.
