The guards will, among other things, assist the police in preventing violent crime and are said to remain in the city until February.
The Trump administration has deployed the National Guard to several cities over the past year, drawing criticism from Democrats and others. Critics have also argued, in the case of New Orleans, that a National Guard deployment is unwarranted given the city's recent decline in violent crime.

"It will help us further combat the violence here in New Orleans and elsewhere in Louisiana," he told Fox News.
