The United States is imposing new economic sanctions against Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and several of his associates.

Sanctions are also being imposed on some of former President Raúl Castro's family members.

The United States has been putting increasing pressure on Cuba in recent months. In addition to its long-standing trade embargo against Cuba, the United States has also cut off oil supplies to the island, which is in a deep economic crisis. U.S. President Trump has also threatened to take control of the country.
