The US is regressing, according to a new corruption survey. The report says independent voices are being restricted and government decisions are being undermined.

When Transparency International releases its annual index of perceived corruption, the United States scores 64 points out of 100. That's one point less than last year - but a full 12 points less than in 2015, when the United States had the highest score under the current method of measurement, which has been used since 2012.

The report does not reflect everything that happened in 2025, the authors note, however, that the political climate in the United States has deteriorated for over a decade.

Among other things, it is mentioned that public offices in the United States have been used to restrict non-governmental organizations and journalists, that the independence of the judiciary has been undermined, and that prosecutorial decision-making has been politicized.
