Militant Islamists, gathered under the name JNIM, are trying to impose a total blockade on energy supply to parts of the country to paralyze the nation ravaged by civil strife. Fuel shortage prevails.
The Islamic extremists are also trying to isolate the capital Bamako from the outside world – and thereby put pressure on the military junta that governs the country. The situation in Mali is becoming increasingly difficult and attempts to get out of there are becoming more and more risky.
Moreover, a large part of the state institutions, schools and universities are forced to remain closed due to the security situation and the ongoing clashes between Islamists and the military.
The military regime in Bamako has previously forced peacekeeping forces, mainly from France but also from Sweden, out of Mali.
