The Hong Kong-based conglomerate CK Hutchison Holdings has agreed to sell the company's profitable ports at the Panama Canal to a US-led consortium.
Hutchison will sell 90 percent of its stake in Panama Ports Company, as well as some other non-Chinese ports, to American Blackrock, the company announces.
The price for the deal will be approximately 19 billion US dollars, equivalent to 200 billion kronor.
The announcement comes after heavy pressure from US President Donald Trump, who has threatened to take back the Panama Canal, which he believes is controlled by China. Trump has not ruled out military means against Panama to get his way.
