Aircraft took off from the military airbase Whiteman in the state of Missouri, reports American media.
According to sources for The Washington Post, they are either on their way to the American territory Guam or an airbase on the island Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. The B-2 planes have been accompanied by refueling aircraft.
The so-called "bunker-busting" GBU-57 is said to be the only bomb that can strike deep enough to damage Iran's nuclear facility Fordo, which is located under a mountain.
According to The Wall Street Journal, this sends the signal that the US wants to have the bomber planes in place if they would be needed against Iran, but according to official sources for the newspaper, no order has been issued to prepare for an attack.
US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he will decide on an attack against Iran "within two weeks". At midnight, Swedish time, he will participate in a national security meeting in the Oval Office, according to the White House schedule.
Earlier this spring, the US stationed a number of B-2 planes at the airbase Diego Garcia, out in the Indian Ocean, where they were used to bomb the Iran-supported Houthi movement in Yemen. According to the military website The War Zone, Diego Garcia is one of the few airbases outside the US with the infrastructure required to maintain operations with B-2 planes over a longer period.
