The military base was attacked in retaliation for an earlier US attack on a telecommunications mast on an island in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the Revolutionary Guard. It is not clear which base it was, but it is being pointed to as the launch site for the attack on Iran.

Meanwhile, Kuwait - where the US has a large military base - announced that the country had been subjected to drone and missile attacks during the night. The projectiles were shot down, the country's military wrote on X.

The US continues to violate the ceasefire, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei claimed at a press conference, according to state-run Fars.

"Iran will take whatever measures we deem necessary to defend national security," he said.

Trump: Iran wants a deal

Over the weekend, the United States carried out several strikes against Iranian drone infrastructure, the US military command Centcom said on Monday. Centcom described its attacks on the city of Garuk and the island of Qeshm as "self-defense" against Iranian aggression during the ceasefire.

The clashes come despite a fragile ceasefire and ongoing peace talks between Tehran and Washington, with US President Donald Trump claiming a ceasefire deal is in the works.

"Iran really wants to make a deal, and it will be a good one for the US and those who are with us," he wrote on Truth Social early Monday, local time in Sweden.

Iran, for its part, blames the US for the fact that no agreement is yet in place.

The Americans' conflicting positions are the reason for the protracted process of reaching an agreement, Esmaeil Baqaei said at Monday's press conference.

Requires frozen assets

Trump has previously stated that his main demands are that the Strait of Hormuz be opened and that Iran not develop any nuclear weapons.

Tehran demands that frozen assets be released before the country's nuclear program is even discussed. On Monday, Iran's Foreign Ministry stated that no talks on nuclear energy are underway.

Iran also demands compensation for war damages and an end to the war in Lebanon.

"We insist that a ceasefire in Lebanon is a basic prerequisite for an agreement to end the war," Baqaei said.
