The State Department says it has approved the sale of Patriot missiles to Ukraine in a deal worth more than $2 billion.
The announcement comes just days after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy complained that the country had been waiting “almost a month” for the missiles.
In the past three months, Ukraine has received 24 Patriot missiles from the United States, while it needs an average of 350 a month, Zelenskyy said last week.
According to Bloomberg, the now-approved purchase will be financed by donations from Canada, Germany and Norway, as well as the EU’s multibillion-dollar loan to Ukraine.
However, the State Department emphasizes that no US funds are being used for the purchase.
