1–1 against Saudi Arabia, 2–2 against Cape Verde and 0–1 against Spain was Uruguay's dismal record at the World Cup.
According to the Japan Times, several Uruguayan media outlets are reporting that the players' team did not receive help from their own federation to get home to Uruguay. The chartered plane that was supposed to take them from their base in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, to the Uruguayan capital Montevideo was canceled. Instead, the players had to arrange their own travel home.
After Uruguay's loss to Spain, the Uruguayan players were very disappointed.
The pain is enormous, the feeling right now is one of profound sadness, said Jose Maria Gimenez in an interview after the match.
