Renewed hopes for a peace deal over the war in Iran are lifting US stock markets. After just over half an hour of trading, the broad S&P 500 index is up 0.5 percent, leaving the index close to a new record level.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index is also up 1.0 percent, marking its tenth straight day of gains, the longest stretch since 2021. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 0.3 percent. The reporting season heated up during the day as several banks released interim figures. Wells Fargo was hit hardest, falling almost 5 percent after the company's interim report.
Amazon climbs 2.6 percent after announcing the acquisition of satellite company Globalstar for $11.6 billion. At the same time, asset manager BlackRock rises 2.7 percent on its interim report.
