Those who dream of a mosquito-free Midsummer have reason to hope. The summer seems to start with unusually few mosquitoes, reports P4 Kalmar.
At least now at the beginning of the summer, we can probably be sure that there will be few mosquitoes, says Tobias Lilja, researcher at the National Veterinary Institute, to the channel.
The reason is low groundwater levels in many places around Sweden.
The mosquitoes that we mainly notice in early summer hatch in puddles in forest soil and this year there are not as many puddles as usual, and then the larvae have nowhere to hatch and then there are no mosquitoes in the same way, says Lilja.
