Manchester United's downturn continues. On yesterday's "Boxing Day" football in England, the team's fourth loss in the last five league matches came under the new Portuguese coach Rúben Amorim.
The team captain Bruno Fernandes received two warnings, the first in the 18th minute and the second in the 47th. This resulted in a red card for the Portuguese and United got a nightmare start to the second half at Molineux Stadium.
Just over ten minutes later, it got even worse. Wolverhampton's Brazilian attacking star Matheus Cunha curled a corner from the left directly into the goal, and the home team took the lead 1-0.
United has had major problems defending set pieces all season. The defense's passivity and goalkeeper André Onana's uncertainty in connection with the goal were symptomatic.
Substitute Hwang Hee-Chan from South Korea then made it 2-0 on stoppage time in the second half.
With the win, Wolverhampton rose above the relegation line in a faltering table. United sank to 14th place.
Since Rúben Amorim took over the team in November, Manchester United has had four losses, two wins, and one draw in the Premier League. United's next league match is played at home against Alexander Isak's Newcastle on Monday evening.
