The UK's competition authority (CMA) has launched an investigation into Apple and Google, according to a statement.
According to the news agency Bloomberg, the aim is to evaluate the tech giants' respective ecosystems for their phones, including operating systems and apps, and analyze whether the companies' market position potentially breaches the competition rules in the UK.
According to the authority, almost all phones sold in the UK have either Apple's operating system (iOS) or Google's Android.
"Given the importance of mobile ecosystems for people, businesses, and the economy, it is crucial that competition works well," writes CMA.
The authority is expected to make a decision on the matter by the end of October.
