It's usually the unions that push for collective agreements and the employer that ends up worse off. But in this case it was the other way around.
The reason is night work. Without a collective agreement, the law prohibits night work, but the union can grant exceptions through an agreement. That is why the strip club Chat Noir in Gothenburg has been operating at night for several years and has asked the Hotel and Restaurant Workers' Union to sign an agreement, after the company was forced to pay penalty fees for the unauthorized night work.
Previously, union leadership refused, saying it was outside their remit. Now they have changed their mind.
"The union organizes workers and signs agreements. We have members at Chat Noir, and they want agreements," Peggy Nyholm told the newspaper.
In addition to strippers, the workplace also employs bar and serving staff.
