There are signs of electoral fraud during the election in Georgia, show analyses of voting data. The Georgian opposition, observers, and foreign governments have previously questioned the election result.

The opposition in Georgia has refused to recognize the official election result announced, that the ruling party Georgian Dream received almost 54 percent of the votes.

The USA-based Edison Research, whose exit poll had predicted a victory for the opposition alliance, states on Friday that the difference between the forecast and the official results "cannot be explained by normal variations".

This suggests "manipulation of the voting at the local level", the research company reports after a new review of the exit poll, where the opposition alliance received a total of 51.9 percent of the votes and the ruling party 40.9.

According to the organization Europe Elects, data from the country's central election commission also suggests fraud in favor of Georgian Dream.

The country's EU-friendly president Salomé Zourabichvili has called the election illegal and accuses Russia of interference. Russia has denied the allegations.
