This is a full-scale regional crisis unfolding in countries that already have extremely uncertain food supply and high conflict levels, says WFP's Sudan coordinator Shaun Hughes.
According to the UN, the humanitarian plan for Sudan is only financed to 14.4 percent. And later in the week, a UN meeting will be held in Spain to hopefully gather international donors. WFP states that all aid to the most vulnerable refugees risks ceasing in August if they do not get new financing underway.
Since the war between government forces and the militia Rapid Support Forces (RSF) broke out in April 2023, more than ten million Sudanese have been displaced within the country. An additional approximately four million Sudanese have fled to neighboring countries, mainly Chad, Egypt, and South Sudan.
