"Although the events and the number of victims have not yet been confirmed, UNHCR and IOM are deeply concerned about the possible deaths," the UN refugee agency and migration organization said in a joint statement.
According to the UN agencies, the ships are said to have left war-torn Myanmar at the end of June, during the period of the year when weather conditions at sea are often more difficult.
"The escalating conflict and worsening humanitarian situation in Myanmar, combined with limited support and few opportunities in refugee camps in Bangladesh, are contributing to an increasing number of people taking dangerous sea journeys in search of safety and protection," they wrote.
