The EU Commission is proposing a further extension of the temporary protection and rights granted to Ukrainians in the EU due to the war in Ukraine.
Ongoing Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure demonstrate that safe and sustainable conditions for return are not in place, said Commission spokesperson Christian Wigand at a press conference in Brussels.
The extension is proposed to apply until 4 March 2026 and will be presented to EU countries at a Home Affairs and Justice Ministers' meeting in Luxembourg later this week.
