The Ukrainian author Sofia Andruchovytj's novel "Amadoka" has been nominated for the Culture House City Theatre's international literature prize.

Andruchovytj wrote the epic after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in an attempt to piece together his homeland's divided history.

"Amadoka" competes with "The Child of Wax" by Danish Olga Ravn. "Evil Flowers" by Norwegian author Gunnhild Øyehaug, "Perhaps the Soul" by Rasmus Nikolajsen from Denmark and "Carcoma" by Spanish Layla Martinez.

The prize is awarded annually to "a prominent work of fiction in commendable Swedish translation". The prize amount of 250,000 kronor is shared equally between the author and the translator. "Amadoka" has for example been translated into Swedish by Nils Håkanson.

The prize winners will be announced on October 24.
