Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has presented a new 20-point plan developed together with the Americans. "We have made significant progress towards finalizing the document," Zelensky said, according to Kyiv Independent. But the sensitive issue of territories remains.

The Americans and Ukrainians are now in agreement on most points in the new draft, according to the president.

"We now have a draft proposal that broadly reflects the joint Ukrainian-American position," Zelenskyy said at a press conference in Kyiv, according to Bloomberg.

Don't want to give up NATO

The proposal, drawn up by Kyiv and Washington, would freeze the front line and pave the way for the creation of demilitarized zones. It also does not require Ukraine to formally renounce joining NATO, as Russia has so far demanded.

Some issues remain to be resolved, he said, adding that negotiations have come significantly closer to finalizing a proposal.

The sensitive issue of territories has not yet been resolved.

"We have not reached any agreement with the American side on the territory of the Donetsk region or the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant," Zelenskyy noted.

Hoping for a response from the Kremlin

So far, the talks have been held between delegations without the heads of state of the respective countries present. Zelenskyy says he is ready to take the next step in the process.

"We are ready for a meeting with the United States at the leadership level to address sensitive issues. Issues such as territorial issues must be discussed at the leadership level," Zelenskyy said.

During the day, the US will hand over the draft to the Kremlin.

Zelenskyy hopes that Moscow will respond to the latest version of the draft as early as Wednesday.

"We will get the Russian response after the United States talks to them," Zelensky told reporters.
