Ukraine is working to send a new revised peace proposal to the United States on Tuesday, says the country's President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The announcement comes after Ukraine, together with European allies, boiled down the White House's previous draft of 28 points to 20.

“We don’t like everything that our partners brought back. Although this issue is not so much about the Americans as about the Russians,” Zelenskyy writes during a digital press conference.

“But we will definitely work on it,” the president continues, adding that he will “do everything” to “send our view on this to the United States” Tuesday evening.

The two major stumbling blocks in the negotiations for the Ukrainian side are security guarantees and territory. An earlier US draft peace plan was called by critics a Russian wish list. Among other things, Ukraine would effectively give up occupied territories and little else, as well as agree to limit its military capabilities and renounce future military alliances.

Zelensky says that Ukraine has neither the legal nor the moral right to cede territory to Russia, which wants Ukraine to give up territories in the east that Russia has not conquered.

Regarding security guarantees, Zelensky wants the US to give a clear message.

"The most important thing is to know what our partners are prepared to do in the event of new aggression from Russia. At present, we have not received an answer to this question," the president writes.
