On a map where Ukraine's offensive in Kursk is shown, the strategically important location is no longer under Ukrainian control. However, the military does not write anything about the situation in Sudzja.
Russia claimed to have taken control of the location earlier in the week. The community is described as a crucial hub for the presence in the Russian Kursk region. If Ukraine loses Sudzja, the country also loses a bargaining chip ahead of a potential ceasefire.
Ukraine launched its offensive in the Russian region of Kursk in August last year. However, the country has recently lost ground in the area and President Volodymyr Zelenskyj described the situation as "very difficult" on Friday. He has, however, rejected US President Donald Trump's claims that Ukrainian forces are surrounded in Kursk.
"Our operation in the Kursk region continues," Zelenskyj wrote on X on Saturday.
He has also emphasized that the offensive in Kursk has helped Ukraine to win and hold ground elsewhere along the front as Russia has had to redistribute its resources.
