U2 released new music on Wednesday for the first time in nearly a decade. The standalone EP, "Days of Ash," includes collaborations with Ed Sheeran and Taras Topolia, a Ukrainian musician who is now fighting against the Russian army.

The band calls it an “immediate reaction to current events” and says the music is inspired by people “fighting on the front lines of freedom.”

The lyrics on the opening track refer to Renée Good, who was shot dead by ICE in January. Bono sings the line “Renée Good born to die free.”

The band also announces that a new full-length album is planned for later this year.

U2 formed in the 1970s and became one of the world's biggest rock bands with hits like "With or Without You." Bono, 65, has previously criticized warfare in Ukraine, Sudan and Gaza.
