A man from the Democratic Republic of the Congo is now isolated in São Paulo with a fever. Another man from Uganda has shown “viral symptoms such as cough, chills and diarrhea,” according to local officials, and is being isolated in Rio de Janeiro.
In neither case has Ebola been confirmed.
According to Africa's disease control agency, Africa CDC, 1,077 suspected cases of hemorrhagic fever have been identified in the ongoing outbreak, of which 246 have died.
The first cases were reported from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but a number have also been confirmed in Uganda.
Healthcare capacity and testing capabilities are lacking in the area, and the World Health Organization has warned that the actual number of cases could be much higher.
