Two Russian stray dogs have been euthanized after they crossed over to the Norwegian side of the border in Sør-Varanger, police announced. The dogs were found by police in Pasvikdalen, near the Russian border.

"They were shot on the Norwegian side of the border," said operations chief Jan Arne Pettersen of the Finnmark Police District to the Norwegian Armed Forces Forum.

He said dogs can have rabies on the other side of the border, a disease authorities do not want brought into Norway.
