WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus will travel to the hard-hit Democratic Republic of the Congo on Tuesday, where an outbreak was detected in the eastern part of the country on May 15. Since then, according to the WHO, more than 900 suspected cases have been identified.
On X, Ghebreyesus wrote that 101 cases of Ebola and ten deaths have been confirmed. A further 220 deaths are suspected to be linked to Ebola-related illnesses in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
This weekend, the African Union's public health agency warned that ten more African countries are at risk, and the WHO warned that the outbreak is spreading very quickly.
