Recurring explosions were heard during the more than five-hour-long attack on Sunday night against Ukraine's capital Kyiv. Residential buildings were hit and caught fire, according to the rescue service.
Three people, including a five-year-old, have been killed and another ten people have been injured, according to the city's military administration. Kyiv's mayor Vitalij Klytjko describes it as a "massive attack" against several districts in the capital.
A warehouse and office building were also set on fire in the capital, where one person has died, according to the state rescue service.
Nearly 150 drones are said to have been fired at Ukraine, with almost a hundred being shot down, according to the country's air force.
According to the governor of the Donetsk region, Vadym Filasjkin, three people have been killed in the attacks. A woman was also killed when two residential buildings in the Dnipro region were set on fire by falling drone debris, according to the state rescue service.
On the other side of the Russian border, in Rostov, it is reported that around 60 Ukrainian drones were shot down. At least one person is said to have died in a fire that broke out as a result of the attack, according to authorities.
The attacks come despite some progress being made in talks about a limited ceasefire in Russia's war of aggression, which the US has had with both Russian and Ukrainian representatives.
The parties are set to meet in Saudi Arabia on Monday. The White House is aiming to have a deal on a ceasefire in place by April 20, reports Bloomberg, citing sources.
