Two people – a man and a child – were seriously injured in an accident at the trotting track Jägersro in Malmö where a horse ran amok. The police are investigating the accident as causing bodily harm.

”What happened was that a horse with a sulky came loose on the stable area and entered the competition area. Currently, two people, a man and a girl, have been taken away by ambulance,” Jägersro writes on its website.

Five people are reported to have been injured in the accident, and according to Region Skåne, a man in his 35s and a girl aged 6-10 are being treated for serious injuries.

The competitions were paused in connection with the accident, but were later carried out.

Stepped up

According to Sydsvenskan's information from the scene, the horse is said to have rushed out into an area where a prize ceremony was taking place after a pony trotting race. Jägersro Trav's CEO Jörgen Nilsson was on the stable area and was himself a witness to the accident.

The horse steps up and tears itself away from here with a sulky behind, he says, and tells that the horse then jumps over a fence with the sulky where people are standing who become shocked and frightened.

It's where a few people get injured. What was bad luck today was that there was so much activity, says Jörgen Nilsson to Sydsvenskan.

Expressen has spoken to visitor Jörgen Forsberg, who first heard the crash, then saw the horse come running.

It's always unpleasant with runaway horses, now one suspected directly that people were involved. So it was unpleasant, he says.

Captured

The competition weekend is the largest of the year at the trotting track, with V75 two days in a row with the Swedish Trotting Derby and the Derby Stakes. On the site, surrounding activities such as pony riding are also taking place,

We have a large area here at Jägersro, so many of the activities take place in completely different places than where the accident occurred, says communications manager Lotta Fjällström to TT.

The horse was captured by staff after the incident, and according to Jägersro, it has been examined by a veterinarian and is doing well under the circumstances. The person handling the horse is also unharmed.
