Elias Pettersson had not scored a goal in the NHL in just over two months before the game against the reigning Stanley Cup champions.
But then he struck - and scored the 1–0 and 2–1 goals in the first period. Vancouver eventually won 5–2 and Pettersson was named player of the match. His second goal of the game also marked his 200th NHL goal (in 530 games).
Pettersson, 27, had his best NHL season three years ago when he scored 39 goals and had 102 points. This season, he has 40 points (15 goals, 25 assists) after 59 games.
